Ok, all done with the admin. Got our numbers, couldn’t leave bikes at the start. Official race bag is so big I may rethink my packing strategy to include a dwarf and a 32inch TV.

Getting powdered food, gels and pills ready for the JoBerg2C. Everything squeezed into zip baggies. The nutrition pack for each day weights just of 1kg. The packing exercise resembled a Johannesburg CAT factory.

Tonight was not about the bike. It was more about who carries what … who carries the spare tire tubes, bombs, brake pads, de-railer, medical kit, multi-tool, space blanket and moisturizer. Where should we sleep on the night before… Heidelberg or home? What …
